Das Würfel Projekt – Retrospective, 2013-19.

Der Würfel ist ein langjähriges Projekt von NBA (bis April 2018 Galerie Neumeister Bar-Am), in dem KünstlerInnen Freiheit auf 80 cm3 gegeben wird. Von 2017 bis Ende 2018 gab es ein weiteres Pendant in Beit Romano, im Süden Tel Avivs, welches von TEDER.FM gehostet wurde.

Der Würfel funktioniert als alternativer White Cube aus Glas, auf den man von außen schaut. Bereits während der Galeriezeiten von Neumeister Bar-Am waren die Projekte im Würfel nicht- kommerzielle Experimente. Aus bisherigen Erfahrungen erwies sich das alternative Format als besonderer Reiz für die KünstlerInnen. Es geht um die Möglichkeit, ein Projekt in einem Raum im Kleinformat ohne Vorgabe zu kreieren.

Bisher wurden im Würfel seit 2013 unter anderem Videoprojektionen, Gemälde und Installationen gezeigt. Barak Bar-Am verstärkte die Ausrichtung des Würfels mit der Neudefinition von NBA 2018 auf junge, aufstrebende KünstlerInnen.

Würfel is a 80cm3 exhibition space of NBA in the former post-office building in Berlin Charlottenburg. It is a platform for site-specific experiments based around the parameters of the space.

Meant to encourage artists to develop works beyond their usual formats, Würfel challenges conventional modes of showing and provides a room that is accessible outside of itself.

After 15 successfully commissioned Würfel projects in Berlin, NBA (then Neumeister Bar-Am) launched Würfel TLV in March 2017. In keeping with the concept of the 80cm3 exhibition space, local artists were invited to respond to the specific architecture of the space.
